A key strategy in effective apologetics is building a cumulative case—using multiple lines of evidence that reinforce one another while remaining capable of standing on their own. Together, they form a strong overall case. But each individual point should also be clear and compelling enough to challenge an opposing argument when considered on its own.
Ready Responses are designed with this approach in mind. Each response is a concise, memorable Truth Bullet—a key fact, question, or line of reasoning you can introduce into a conversation. You don’t need to deliver an entire argument at once. Sometimes one well-placed truth is enough to challenge an assumption, expose a weakness, or give someone a reason to reconsider what they believe.
Skeptics often raise difficult questions about creation, the universe, God, and the Bible. Ready Responses gives you concise answers, memorable Truth Bullets, key Scriptures or Quotes to help you understand the issue and explain what you believe in your own words.
Purpose: You don’t need to memorize an argument. Learn the key ideas well enough to explain them in your own words.
Mankind Continually Invents New Ways to Practice Evil
Response
The Bible reveals something remarkable about fallen humanity: People do not merely commit evil acts. They actively devise new ways to practice them.
Romans 1:28-30 describes those who reject God’s moral authority as people who become increasingly creative in their wrongdoing.
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil.
Throughout history, mankind has demonstrated extraordinary ingenuity in science, technology, communication, and commerce. These abilities have produced tremendous benefits for humanity.
But those same abilities can also be deliberately misused to multiply evil.
Consider several examples:
- Human trafficking: Criminal networks use transportation, financial systems, and digital communication to exploit vulnerable people.
- Sexual exploitation: Modern technologies allow abusive and exploitative material to be produced and distributed on an unprecedented scale.
- Financial crime: Sophisticated financial and communication systems can conceal fraud, corruption, and criminal enterprises.
- Weapons of destruction: Scientific discoveries can be exploited to develop increasingly destructive methods of warfare.
- Digital deception: Technology can facilitate identity theft, financial fraud, blackmail, and exploitation.
The point is not that technology itself is evil. Rather, mankind repeatedly demonstrates its willingness to transform otherwise beneficial inventions into instruments of wickedness that end up being the root causes of mass suffering.
God created human beings with remarkable intelligence and creativity. Yet humanity frequently uses those gifts to devise new ways to violate His moral standards.
Truth Bullet
– Mankind does not merely commit evil—it continually invents new ways to practice, expand, and profit from it.

Challenge Question: If mankind continually invents new methods of exploitation, violence, and corruption, why is God blamed for the evil that human beings deliberately design and carry out?
Mankind Does Not Merely Tolerate Evil—It Promotes and Profits From It
Response
Perhaps even more troubling than humanity’s ability to invent evil is its willingness to encourage, distribute, and profit from it.
Romans 1:32 describes people who not only practice wrongdoing but also approve of others who do the same.
This principle is readily observable in modern society.
Entire industries and criminal enterprises can profit from destructive human behavior. Some exploit addiction, others encourage greed or deception, and still others normalize practices that harm individuals and families.
Consider the contradiction:
- Society condemns human exploitation while criminal networks profit from trafficking and abuse.
- People express outrage over dishonesty while fraud and deception remain lucrative enterprises.
- Communities condemn violence while certain forms of entertainment glamorize cruelty and revenge.
- Society recognizes the destructive consequences of addiction while businesses and criminal organizations profit from dependency.
- People criticize moral corruption while sometimes celebrating behaviors they would condemn if directed against themselves.
Repeated exposure to ideas and behaviors can influence attitudes and expectations, particularly when those behaviors are presented as admirable or without consequences.
This does not mean that everyone who watches violent entertainment becomes violent, or that media exposure alone explains criminal behavior.
The larger biblical point is that human beings can become active participants in the normalization and promotion of wrongdoing.
Rather than restraining evil, mankind often creates incentives for it to flourish.
Truth Bullet
– Much of the evil mankind condemns is also the evil mankind encourages, markets, normalizes, and profits from.

Challenge Question: How can a society that encourages, markets, and profits from destructive behavior consistently accuse God of permitting the very evils it willingly promotes?
Mankind Has Rejected God’s Instructions for Restraining Evil
Response
One of the most compelling responses to the problem of evil is that God has not left humanity without moral guidance.
Throughout Scripture, God provides clear instructions intended to restrain wrongdoing, protect the innocent, preserve justice, and promote human flourishing.
Consider the safeguards God has provided:
- Love your neighbor: Prevents cruelty, exploitation, and selfish disregard for others.
- Do not murder: Establishes the sanctity of human life.
- Do not steal: Protects property and promotes honesty.
- Do not commit adultery: Protects marital faithfulness and family relationships.
- Do not bear false witness: Protects truth and justice.
- Care for the poor and vulnerable: Promotes compassion and protection for those who cannot defend themselves.
- Exercise justice: Holds wrongdoers accountable and protects the innocent.
- Guard your heart and mind: Encourages resistance to influences that cultivate sinful desires.
- Love your enemies: Confronts hatred, vengeance, and cycles of retaliation.
Imagine a society in which these principles were consistently practiced.
How much murder, theft, fraud, exploitation, abuse, corruption, and injustice would remain?
Certainly, obedience to God’s moral instructions would not eliminate every disease, earthquake, or natural disaster. But it would dramatically reduce the suffering in the world.
The irony is difficult to ignore.
Mankind frequently rejects God’s moral authority, disregards His commandments, and dismantles structures of accountability.
Then, when predictable consequences follow, humanity questions why God permits so much evil.
Truth Bullet
– God has provided clear moral instructions for restraining evil. Much of the wickedness humanity experiences results from its refusal to follow them.

Challenge Question: Is it reasonable to blame God for the consequences of human wrongdoing when mankind repeatedly rejects the very moral instructions God provided to prevent it?
Mankind Has the Ability to Restrain Much of the Evil It Permits
Response
One of the most revealing questions in the discussion of evil is not simply why God allows it, but why mankind allows so much evil that it possesses the ability to prevent or reduce.
Human beings have developed extraordinary capabilities.
We can explore space, perform complex medical procedures, communicate instantly across continents, and develop technologies that previous generations could scarcely imagine.
Yet with all these capabilities, humanity continues to tolerate widespread exploitation, injustice, corruption, and preventable suffering.
Consider the possibilities:
- Governments can enact and enforce laws protecting vulnerable people from exploitation.
- Communities can identify and intervene when children are being abused or neglected.
- Businesses can refuse to profit from fraudulent or exploitative practices.
- Families can teach moral responsibility, self-control, and respect for others.
- Individuals can report wrongdoing, assist victims, and refuse to participate in corruption.
- Churches can demonstrate God’s love by protecting the vulnerable, confronting injustice, and meeting practical needs.
None of these measures would eliminate every form of evil. Human freedom, limited knowledge, and imperfect institutions mean that wrongdoing would remain possible.
Nevertheless, enormous opportunities exist to prevent or reduce suffering caused by deliberate human actions.
The biblical command to love our neighbors places responsibility upon us to act rather than remain indifferent.
When humanity possesses the ability to intervene but chooses selfishness, convenience, profit, or indifference instead, the resulting harm cannot simply be attributed to God’s inaction.
Truth Bullet
– Mankind possesses extraordinary resources and abilities to restrain evil, yet frequently fails to use them. Human indifference contributes to the suffering humanity blames God for allowing.
